How Get Vietnam Business Visa for Malaysian Citizens in the Covid-19 Season

Traveling to Vietnam these days is now possible, but only if you are visiting for essential reasons. For instance, if you are a Malaysian businessman and you need to visit Vietnam for some important transactions, then you will be allowed to enter. However, there are several requirements that you must fulfill. To ensure that the country remains safe from Covid-19, all foreign visitors will be asked to undergo a 14-day quarantine. They must also submit a negative result of the Covid-19 test taken at least 3 to 5 days before entry into the country. More importantly, Malaysian businessmen wishing to enter the country must apply for a business visa since the visa-free exemption has been suspended.

Changes to Vietnam Visas Due to Covid-19

Under the Visa Exemption Program of Vietnam, Malaysian citizens can enter the country with no need to apply for a visa. Unfortunately, this privilege has been suspended at the moment. All visitors wishing to enter Vietnam this Covid-19 season are required to apply for a visa. Therefore, if you are going to Vietnam for a business trip, you must first apply for a Vietnam business visa. To do that, you need to have a sponsor company that can apply for the visa on your behalf.

Who Can Enter Vietnam During the Covid-19 Pandemic?

Even though Vietnam’s borders are now opened and the airports have resumed operations, not all foreigners are eligible to enter the country. To control the number of foreigners that will visit Vietnam and ensure that there will be enough place for them to quarantine, the Vietnamese government will only allow essential visits as of the moment. The only persons that can enter Vietnam at this time are the following:

  • Entrepreneurs, business managers, and investors
  • Foreign diplomats
  • Skilled workers and workers of projects deemed important by the government
  • Vietnamese citizens returning home
  • Visitors on official duty and special caseworkers

Vietnam Business Visa Requirements for Malaysian Citizens

To apply for the business visa, you need to have the following:

  • A sponsor company. This is the company that invites you to Vietnam or the company that you work for in Vietnam.
  • Travel permit that will be issued by the Local People’s Committee. Before the permit is issued, your sponsor company must first send a letter to ask permission for your entry.
  • A confirmed hotel booking for 14 days where you will undergo your quarantine.
  • Your hotel booking must come with a pre-booked vehicle for airport pickup since you won’t be allowed to use public transportation before your quarantine.

Process of Applying for a Vietnam Business Visa this Covid-19 Pandemic

It is your sponsor company that should process your business visa application. Here’s how:

  1. First, the sponsor company will send a letter to the Local People’s Committee to inform them about your visit. The letter should indicate the details about your visit. It should also have information about the sponsor company, including their address and contact details.
  2. If the Local People’s Committee will approve your visit, they will issue the travel permit.
  3. Next, your sponsor company can start applying for your business visa from the Vietnam Immigration Department. The travel permit must be submitted when applying for the visa, along with the other requirements.
  4. Once your business visa is already available, you can now book your flight from Malaysia to Vietnam.

Covid-19 Test and Quarantine Requirements

To ensure the safety of its citizens, the Vietnam government would require all foreign visitors to submit to a Covid-19 test before flying to Vietnam. The test should be done at a WHO-certified facility in Malaysia and must be performed at least 3 to 5 days before entry into the country. It should state that you are negative for the Covid-19 virus.

Aside from undergoing the Covid-19 test, you will have to go into quarantine for 14 days upon your arrival in Vietnam. There are hotels in various cities in Vietnam that the government has designated as quarantine facilities. You need to book any of these hotels and must show proof of booking upon check-in. Your booking should be good for 14 days. The cost of the hotel packages would vary, but the cost already includes the meals for your entire 14-day stay.

Since you will be tested again in Vietnam at least two times during your quarantine, the Vietnamese government will also require you to have medical insurance. That way, if you get sick from the Covid-19 virus, the insurance will cover the cost of your treatment. But if you cannot provide proof of insurance that comes with Covid-19 coverage, your sponsor company should be willing to pay for your cost of treatment for Covid-19.

For Malaysian citizens who are eligible for entry to Vietnam but do not have a sponsor company that can apply for their visa, you can get in touch with a local agency for assistance.
