Visa Extension

How to Extend My Vietnamese Visa in Hai Phong City

Hai Phong is a major port city located in the northeastern part of Vietnam, right across the Cat Ba Island. So many foreigners are interested to live here and it’s easy to see why. The city’s leafy boulevards are lined with French colonial landmarks including a neoclassical Opera House and the Queen of the Rosary Cathedral, which dates back to the 19th century. Hai Phong is also home to various historical sites, such as the Du Hang Pagoda, a Buddhist temple, and Hai Phong Museum.

If you are thinking of extending your stay in Hai Phong to fully explore the city, you should first get your visa extended. Remember, Vietnam visas have validity. If you are holding a tourist visa, then this will only allow you to stay for 30 days. If you would like to stay longer, you should apply for a visa extension.

What is Visa Extension?

So what exactly is a visa extension? Visa extension is the process of extending your visa’s validity. If your tourist visa is valid for only 30 days, you can apply for a visa extension so the validity will be extended for another 30 days. Once extended, you would be able to stay in Hai Phong for a total of 60 days. Remember, you can only extend the validity of the visa to the same period of validity. So if the validity period is 30 days, you can only extend it for another 30 days. Also, you’re only allowed to apply for an extension up to two times.

To apply for a visa extension, you can go to the Vietnam Immigration Office in Hai Phong City. But you don’t need to go to Hanoi for this. There’s an Immigration Office in the Ngo Quyen District of Hai Phong City, so you can submit the application there. You can also hire an agent online that can process the visa extension on your behalf.

With a visa extension, you will not be issued a new visa. If your application is approved, your passport will be stamped with the new validity period. Make sure you leave the country before the expiry date or you can apply for an extension again.
