Vietnam e-visa

Vietnam E-visa Via Long Thanh City Airport

In order to address the congestion in Ho Chi Minh’s Tan Son Nhat Airport, Vietnam is building a new airport just outside of Ho Chi Minh. Named as the Long Thanh City Airport, this airport is expected to open next year and will handle both domestic and international passengers.

For foreign visitors who are required to have a visa before they can enter Vietnam, there are many visa options to consider. One of these is the Vietnam e-visa. Here’s how you can use the Vietnam e-visa via Long Thanh City Airport.

What Is Vietnam e-Visa?

The e-visa is the shortened term for electronic visa. This visa can be applied online and will be issued online as well. Once you receive a copy of the visa, you just have to print it. Then bring the printed copy on your trip to Vietnam. What’s great about the e-visa is that it’s very easy and convenient to apply.

When the government of Vietnam first launched the e-visa, they have made it available to only 40 countries. However, due to its success in bringing millions of foreign visitors to Vietnam, they have decided to make it available to citizens of more than 80 countries.

The Vietnam e-visa is only good for single entry and you get to stay for a maximum of 30 days in Vietnam. There’s an option to extend the validity period, but you have to do it through an agency that can sponsor your stay and process your visa extension.

What Are the Requirements needed for the Vietnam e-Visa Application?

Just like with applying any type of visa, you are required to submit some requirements during your application. Here’s a list of requirements to submit when applying for the Vietnam e-visa.

  • Passport – you should make sure to have a valid passport. It should not expire within 6 months of entering Vietnam. You also need to upload a scanned copy of the bio page of your passport so you better have this ready. Sample for passport’s bio page.
  • Passport-sized photo – you also need to submit a passport-sized photo that’s taken recently. It should have a white background and must show your face clearly. The photo should be in jpeg format so you can upload it on the e-visa application system. Photo guide
  • Application form – when applying for the Vietnam e-visa, you will be asked to fill out an online version of the application form. Make sure you fill out the form completely and don’t leave anything blank. Review all details you entered and make sure the spelling is correct.
  • Valid email address – you will be asked to provide your email address when applying for the e-visa. The email should be valid because this is where you will receive a copy of your e-visa.
  • Credit card or debit card – there’s a processing fee that you need to pay during your e-visa application online. It costs around $25 and you can pay with your card or PayPal account.

How Long Will the Processing of the e-Visa Take?

The usual processing time for e-visa is 3 business days. You can also opt for the rush processing option if you need the visa urgently.  Here’s how long you will get your visa depending on the processing time you have chosen:

  • Standard processing – the processing will take up to 3 business days.
  • Rush – you could get it in as fast as 24 hours.
  • Super rush – your e-visa will be released within only 8 hours of submitting your visa application.

If you will choose the rush or super rush processing, expect to pay more. This will cost around $40 to $50. Take note that the payment for the e-visa processing fee is non-refundable. So if you decide to cancel your trip or if your application gets rejected, you can’t get your money back.

Important Things To Know Using the e-Visa Via Long Thanh City Airport

The Vietnam Immigration would require foreign visitors to apply for their Vietnam visa at least two weeks before their scheduled trip. This is to give them ample time to process the visa.

Since the e-visa will only allow you to stay in Vietnam for 30 days, you need to get out of the country before the 30-day period in order not to be charged with overstaying and pay a hefty penalty. If you need to get the visa extended, there are agencies in Vietnam that can process the extension on your behalf. But if you already knew ahead of your trip that your stay in Vietnam would be longer than 30 days, you might as well apply for the Visa on Arrival. This visa will give you an option to apply for a multiple-entry visa and with a maximum stay of 90 days.

Once you have your e-visa, print a copy of it and take it with you on your trip to Ho Chi Minh. When you arrive at Long Thanh City airport, go directly to Passport Control and submit your passport and e-visa.
