Visa Exemption Agreement Between Vietnam – Korea (Democratic People’s Republic)

The two sides exchanged notes on visa exemption:

  • Visa exemption for holders of diplomatic passports, official passports, and ordinary passports on official duty (effective from October 1, 1956). In accordance with current regulations, North Korean citizens holding diplomatic passports, official passports, and ordinary passports for official purposes are allowed to temporarily stay visa-free for 30 days in Vietnam.
  • From August 5, 2018, the 1966 Agreement on visa exemption for ordinary passport holders on official duties between the Government of Vietnam and the Government of North Korea officially terminated (diplomatic passports and official passports are still exempted from visas according to the agreement between the Governments of the two countries).

On October 13, 2012, the Government of Vietnam and the Government of Kuwait signed an agreement that exempts the holders of diplomatic or official passports from obtaining visas. The agreement became effective on April 24, 2013.

The governments of Kazakhstan and Vietnam have recently approved an agreement that exempts citizens of both countries from visa requirements. The agreement was issued on June 13, 2023, and came into immediate effect.
